Adults and Seniors

We offer a gentle trauma informed model of therapy that includes both non-verbal (art), followed by counselling. It helps you access an inner "Self" to lead and heal internal parts, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which teaches you to identify and reframe negative thought patterns. Other approaches include Self-Acceptance Therapy, focusing on transforming negative beliefs, and practicing mindfulness, self-compassion, and self-reflection to foster inner strength and confidence.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

As an ACA registered counselling provider, Light Waves Art Therapy is a registered for cover with some private health insurers. Eligibility and cover are dependent on your policy - please discuss during intake and check your insurance policy details.

Children and Adolescents

We offer children a unique way to express themselves, process emotions, and develop coping skills. It's a non-verbal form of therapy, making it particularly helpful for children who struggle to articulate their feelings. Art therapy for children can be beneficial for various issues, including anxiety, trauma, grief, and emotional or behavioral challenges.

We help young people navigate emotional ups and downs, strengthen their sense of self, and feel more confident.

It is best if parents and caregivers do not attend their child’s art therapy session. The therapist will communicate and offer regular feedback to caregivers, and may also offer family or dyad sessions if deemed appropriate. We want to make sure children and adolescents feel that the art therapy space is a special and safe space just for them.

MEDICARE

Unfortunately, both counselling and art therapy are not currently covered by medicare. However, fees are adjusted to be similar to out-of-pocket expenses when seeing a private psychologist.
